Does Any of This Sound Familiar?
If you recognize yourself in this list, there's good news. A simple filling may be all it takes to feel like yourself again.
What Happens When a Cavity Goes Untreated?
Decay Spreads Deeper
What starts as a small cavity can reach the inner nerve of your tooth over time.
Treatment Gets More Complex
A simple filling today could become a crown or root canal later.
Costs Increase Over Time
Delaying a minor repair often leads to more expensive treatment down the road.
Sensitivity Gets Worse
Ongoing discomfort can make eating and drinking less enjoyable every day.
More Tooth Structure Is Lost
The longer decay sits, the less healthy tooth remains to work with.
Infection Becomes a Risk
Untreated decay can eventually lead to infection, swelling, or a dental emergency.
The sooner you address a cavity, the simpler and more comfortable your treatment will be.
Understanding Dental Fillings and How They Work
Dental fillings are one of the most common restorative treatments in dentistry. When tooth decay creates a cavity, a filling removes the damaged portion and restores the tooth’s shape, strength, and function. Modern fillings are made from durable, tooth-colored materials that bond directly to your natural tooth, providing a secure and seamless repair.
At Berkshire Smile Studio, we use advanced digital imaging and CEREC technology to plan and place dental fillings in Pittsfield with precision and efficiency. This allows us to identify decay early, preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible, and deliver restorations that fit accurately from the start.

Could Dental Fillings Be Right for You?
Not Sure If You Need a Filling?
What to Expect During Your Dental Filling Appointment
Evaluation and Preparation
Your visit begins with a thorough examination using digital imaging to see exactly where the decay is and how far it extends. We discuss your options, answer your questions, and make sure you feel confident before moving forward. A gentle local anesthetic ensures the area is completely numb so you won't feel discomfort during treatment.
Removing the Decay
Using precise instruments, we carefully remove only the decayed portion of your tooth, preserving as much healthy structure as possible. You may feel light vibration or pressure, but the numbing ensures your comfort throughout. We take our time to be thorough without being aggressive.
Placing and Shaping Your Filling
The filling material is applied in layers, bonded securely to your tooth, and shaped to match your natural bite. We use a curing light to harden each layer for a strong, lasting result. Before you leave, we check your bite carefully and make any final adjustments so everything feels just right.
Ready to Feel Comfortable Again?
What to Expect After Your Dental Filling
First 24-48 Hours
Some sensitivity to hot, cold, or pressure is completely normal as the tooth adjusts. If local anesthetic was used, numbness wears off within a few hours. Stick to softer foods until full sensation returns, and avoid chewing directly on the new filling if it feels tender.
First Week
Any residual sensitivity usually resolves within the first week. You can return to your regular brushing and flossing routine right away. If your bite feels slightly off or sensitivity persists beyond a few days, let us know so we can make a simple adjustment. Every patient heals a little differently, and that's perfectly normal. We provide clear aftercare guidance specific to your filling and are just a call away if anything comes up.
We're here to help.
